Bas — Dreamville

The son of Sudanese parents, Bas was raised in Paris until the age of eight, when his family moved to Jamaica, Queens. He didn’t start rapping until 2010, and that was on a lark, after he was coerced by a friend.

Touring with Cole fostered the fledgling rapper’s development as a performer, while mixtape releases such as Quarter Water Raised Me and Quarter Water Raised Me II elevated his profile.

Cole signed Bas to Dreamville releasing Last Winter, jokingly referred to as “An album from a n*gga who ain’t got alotta fans yet”. It was released as a digital download and a CD in April 2014.

Bas – Vacation

“The song was me trying to express that through all our travels there’s still a sense of home,” says Bas “No matter where I’m at, I love New York. The whole point of vacation is to get away from your city, so that was a way for me to say, I don’t go on vacation in that sense. I speak on being present in the moment. ‘Vacation’ is a reminder to stay woke, to stay in the present. I’m not on vacation. I’m very much here.” – Bas

Bas in Interview Magazine

In the video for “Vacation,” Bas, the 27-year-old Queens rapper best known for his affiliation with childhood friend and labelmate J. Cole is standing in a subway car departing First Avenue and 14th Street. Underneath the L’s clinical, fluorescent lighting, his eyelids grow heavy. Bas is daydreaming. The vision: crashing waves, two sunbathing models wearing little more than lingerie and sunglasses, bottomless champagne bottles, dollar bills raining from the heavens, a boat ride across the Hudson. The camera, lingering on Bas, provides the illusion of an emcee walking on water. Read more at Interview Magazine

Sup Fiends and Friends and Friends of Fiends,

I got good news and good news and a lil bit of fake bad news.

Let’s start with the fake bad news.

Last Winter. April 22.

Now the good news (and reason for delay) is that on April 22, Last Winter will be my very first project to be released commercially! Just the prospect of Last Winter on all the music discovery services along with the new fans I can reach is EXCITING AS FUCK. If you starving my nigga don’t buy the shit (we’ll still get you lit) but for those who choose to support I can’t express my gratitude in writing. You’re just going to have to find me at a show and I’ll smoke you the fuck out.

I can’t put it into words but I’ll crush it up into lil pieces and put it into some Raw papers. All jokes aside though, it’s going to be a dream come true when my parents walk into Best Buy (limited run) to buy my CD.

MAMA LOOK! ALL THIS MOOKIN’S FINALLY PAID OFFFFF!!!

Not to mention when all you fiends tweet me your iTunes purchases and screenshots of Last Winter in your library. I can just visualize it already and I know I’m going to be smiling ear to ear. I wouldn’t be here without y’all and I cant wait to mob with you fiends thru this next phase of my career. Shoutout to Dreamville/ Interscope for seeing our vision and, most importantly, committing the resources to give this project a proper release. Sample clearance alone would cost the Super Mookin Fiends probably all our combined mook money for like 3 years.

SOBER FOR 3 YEARS. That shit would suck.

Oh yea. More good news.

1 Love

-Bas

PS: Wanted to leave you with an early treat. It’s 4 am in NYC right now. This shit is scheduled to post to the blog dumb early. I won’t be awake fiends. Nope. No shot. Try me like three – fo’ thirty.

PPS: Don’t I look warm though? REAL NIGGA

Sup FIENDS,

This is our last visual off of Quarter Water Raised Me Vol.II and it couldn’t be a more fitting one.

The past 7 months since the release of Vol.II have been truly life changing and with the help of director OG we put together a video chronicling our travels on the What Dreams May Come Tour.

This is just a thank you note from me to you, you, and you. My Dreamville team and the FIENDS.
